An elderly widow, Mrs Wilberforce advertises her upstairs room for rent near Kings Cross. Her prayers are answered when the charming Professor Marcus turns up as her lodger. It's even better when he and his friends arrive so they can rehearse for their amateur string quintet. But they are not what they seem. There’s a bank robbery to be planned and executed and Mrs Wilberforce becomes their unwitting accomplice.
Inevitably things start to go wrong and it’s Professor Marcus and his gang against Mrs Wilberforce. And will this sweet old lady get the upper hand?
This play is based on one of the Nation’s favourite comedy films from Ealing Studios.
Far from a straight transfer from screen to stage, Graham Linehan (Father Ted, The IT Crowd) has written a new version that ensures the story will be a laugh out loud experience for the audience!
